1966 Ford GT40
When I first saw this car, I knew it could never be painted onto a small canvas. This lady demands to be noticed. Whether on the track, street, or as focal piece of fine art, this car says “Look at Me”.
My reference photo (thank you to vehicle owner, Jeff, for allowing me to photograph her) is of a 2009 GT40 using racing number “9”. I wanted paint this beautiful car, and give a nod to the original #6 GT40 that won LeMans in 1966. My painting is a combination of the original vehicle and the impeccable replica from 2009.
I used few colors for this piece. The most challenging aspect was capturing the garage concrete flooring and creating the optical illusion that the GT40 is coming off the canvas toward my viewer.
Colors used: Cerulean blue, Paynes Gray, Cadmium Light/Dark Red, Cadmium Orange and Yellow, Lilac, Titanium White, Naples Yellow.
