"The Queen's Ascent" (Pikes Peak 1985 Audi Sport Quattro)

In 1985, Michèle Mouton won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in an Audi Sport Quattro, setting a new course record of 11:25.39 and becoming the first woman to win the event overall. Driving a 1985 Audi Sport Quattro on the all-dirt, 12-mile course, she dominated the "Race to the Clouds," shattering the previous record.

In a world where many said women couldn't compete, she proved that they not only could compete but could win, and win big. Her famous quote, “I prefer a perfect right foot to a pretty face,” sums up her attitude towards motorsport: what matters is talent, not gender.

She remains the only woman to have won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb overall.

About my painting: I saw this phenomenal vehicle at Amelia Island Concours. To be honest, I did not know the story behind this iconic vehicle or driver. My husband, on the other hand, absolutely knew the history and was delighted to tell me about Michele and her incredible drive in the Audi.

Being a woman in the automotive art world, I am always delighted to hear about other women that are in racing, design, manufacturing, engineering, and other areas of the automotive world. Michele Mouton is a legend, and I am honored to have painted her award winning Audio Quattro.
