"Sweet Annie" (Antonov An-2 Airplane)

"Sweet Annie" (Antonov An-2 Airplane), 24"x30"x1.5", acrylic on canvas by Shan Fannin, 2025
The Antonov An-2 (NATO reporting name: Colt) is a legendary Soviet-era single-engine biplane, famous for its incredible durability, utility, and remarkably long production and service life. It's often nicknamed
"Annushka" (Annie) or the "Tractor of the Skies". This plane was used for agriculture, medical/forestry, civil flight, and military purposes. Over 18000 of these planes were made, and production stopped in 2001. It is still used today by civilian and military.
First Flight: August 31, 1947
Bringing aircraft to life on canvas is always quite a challenge. Like a motorcycle, there are many working parts that are visible to the viewer. This painting had many colors to depict the engine and bodywork. Purples, greens, pinks, reds, blues, yellows, browns, grays, and whites were used. A rainbow palette for a beauty in the sky.
